Felix Rehder takes the title of European champion in functional fitness

Felix Rehder holt den Titel des Europameisters der funktionalen Fitness

Hannes Beyer |

Over the past weekend, more precisely from 30.06. to 02.07.23, the IF3 invited to find the fittest person in Europe. As the International Functional Fitness Federation, the IF3 stands for sport and athletics like no other association. In the host country Hungary, countless athletes, including 4 German athletes, fought in six test categories for a place on the podium and for a championship title. In Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, Felix Rehder (CrossFit Schmelztiegel/Heidelberg) took the lead.

"Flixi" reached for the stars as early as 2022, securing the title of Vice World Champion there. In the preliminary round on Friday, he showed his bite and sheer power on the competition field, so that qualifying for the final was almost a formality for Felix. In 6 tests (endurance, strength, bodyweight, skill, mixed and power) all areas that make a good athlete were sampled. Functional fitness isn't just about who runs the fastest or who breaks the most.
A more complex profile is required here, this is about a more versatile type of athlete.

Within the Female Division, Jana Geertz secured the title of Vice European Champion. Although the weather did not play along with the women and forced the athletes to interrupt their competitions, Jana remained deeply relaxed on the outside and delivered on July 2nd. in the outstanding tests across the board.

But functional fitness isn't just about first and second place finishers. We don't want to withhold further honorable mentions from you:

Other placings for men:
7th in the preliminary round Eric Zuchold (Athletenschmiede Kiel/Kiel - Schleswig-Holstein).
For women: 5th place in the final Judith Melcher (CrossFit Zollhafen/Mainz - Rhineland Palatinate).

How is the qualification for the IF3 European Championship going?

All athletes who were part of the squad for this year's European Championships in Functional Fitness recommended themselves for one of the squad places in the run-up to last year's German Championships. The performance retrieved on the DM then decided how the places to be allocated could be filled and who was allowed to switch to competition mode a second time in Hungary.

Why is the wodstore reporting on the European Championship?

The DBVfF eV (German Federal Association for Functional Fitness) is currently working on admission to the DOSB and therefore does not yet receive any state funding for the sport and the athletes. Sponsoring sports is expensive, costs energy and time, but also money. Especially in the initial phase of establishing a new size of the sport, it is important to have supporters at your side. In addition to V-BC Zurich and Hansefit as pioneers of company fitness, Lift Heavy Lift also has a place as a sponsor of the German national team. The wodstore and Lift Heavy are closely interwoven, the motto "Lift Heavy every day" reflects our company philosophy and our way of thinking. With willpower and a good dose of heart, mountains can be moved. That's why it's incredibly important to us as wodstore in association with Lift Heavy to celebrate the German athletes for their performance in Hungary as they deserve.

Nice to know: What does the German Federal Association for Functional Fitness do?

The DBVfF acts as the German umbrella organization for functional fitness sports. This means, clearly formulated, that all national organizations and all member associations are organized within it. However, the focus is always on the relationship between athlete and spectator in order to offer everyone involved in a competition an experience that sticks in their heads and hearts. Sport and competition thrive on fairness, participation, committed cooperation, enthusiasm for personal records and the struggle of others. The wodstore and Lift Heavy are pursuing the same goal as the DBVfF: more functional fitness for everyone!
